A & R

A & R  |  1922-25  |  Germany  :

A & R, formally Anton und Richter Motorenwerke GmbH, operated in Brakel, Westphalia during the short but active period from 1922 to 1925. The firm specialised in the production of singlecylinder twostroke industrial and motorcycle engines, offering units rated at 2.9 hp and 5.0 hp. These compact powerplants reflected the widespread postWWI demand for simple, reliable engines suitable for lightweight motorcycles, utility machines, and small manufacturers lacking their own enginedesign capacity. Although A & R did not progress into full motorcycle production, its engines were part of the broader ecosystem of proprietary German motor suppliers during the Weimar era. The company disappeared from records after 1925.
