The Parkyns-Bateman included a two cylinder double-acting steam engine in
a Cheylesmore pedal tricycle. The boiler was heated by a petroleum burner,
making it the first petrol fueled vehicle. Many orders were placed for this
vehicle at the annual Stanley Bicycle show in London, England, British law at
the time however made it virtually illegal for such vehicles to use public roads
so development stalled.
